Starling murmuration "Together" greetings card

£3.50

A starling murmuration greetings card celebrate how these birds gather together to create mesmerising swirling clouds in still winter skies. Although the reason starlings form murmurations is still a mystery, it is thought that it helps protect them from predators and allows them to exchange information about the best feeding sites. Coming together to look after one another is a message our world needs right now and one that carries meaning when this card is gifted to loved ones.

Mix and match

Front: "Together"
Inside: Blank
Back: Starling murmurations happen at dusk above the birds’ roosting sites and just before they head to sleep, usually in sheltered woodland or a reedbed. It is thought the gatherings of up to 100,000 birds from all over Europe helps protect them from predators and allows them to exchange information about the best feeding sites. As one starling changes direction, the seven surrounding it follow and the movement ripples through the murmuration. Murmurations start to form in September and continue to gather in number throughout the winter until they are a huge mass of swirling shapes in the sky. Sadly, starlings are in rapid decline in the UK potentially due to falling insect populations and a loss of nesting sites.
